Where’s the Excitement?
The folks at Richmond are kinda bummed because it looks like the Race to the Chase will be over after California. They’ve built there publicity campaign around the “who will make the chase” scenario. Now it looks like it we’ll know before the drivers even get there.
That’s what happens when you expand the field.
What would we be looking at if NASCAR hadn’t went to 12 instead of 10 drivers in the chase? Going into California 65 points separate positions 9 thru 12 with Kevin Harvick holding onto the 10th spot by 1 point and 12th place Kurt Busch 9 points back. One bad run and 9th place Clint Bowyer could drop 57 points and be out of contention.
But instead of the chase being set at Richmond, during an exciting night race, we get the always boring, never sold out Calfornia Speedway.
Nice job Brian. Big Bill would have proud.
