TSR, Jones Kick-Off Chili Bowl Midget Nationals Action

January 10th, 2008

The 2008 racing season kicked off with a bang as the 22nd Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals began this week in Tulsa, Okla. Levi Jones competed in the first round of preliminary action for Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) on Wednesday, January 9.Earning a second place finish in the second heat race of the night, Jones locked himself into the first A-qualifying race. Jones got a jump on the field at the start of the A-qualifier event and held off several restart charges to earn the victory and a starting spot in the 25-lap A-main.

Starting from the second row in the A-main event, Jones was forced to jump the cushion in the early laps of competition in order to avoid contact between Jerry Coons, Jr. and Davey Ray. In taking the high line, the brakes on the No. 20J TSR/Chevrolet/Bass Pro Shops/Armor All/Spike locked up and cut the engine, forcing Jones to restart from the tail of the field. He battled his way forward as the laps wound down to earn an 18th place finish in the night’s preliminary feature.

Thursday night will see two-time Chili Bowl Midget Nationals winner Tony Stewart compete in preliminary action. For a sneak peak at Stewart’s unique TSR/Chevrolet/Bass Pro Shops/Armor All/Spike entry please open the attached web-sized photo.

TSR’s Tracy Hines and Josh Richards will compete in Friday night’s preliminary event. The event will mark Hines’ first time on the dirt since a late-April accident sidelined him in 2007.
