  • Following the procedure, Hines has resumed daily physical therapy at St. Vincent Sports Medicine.
  • Hines visited the TSR shop on Oct. 2; was able to sit in the No. 21 USAC Midget for the first time since the accident.
  • Continues to work toward making his return to the No. 21 machine at Phoenix International Raceway on Nov. 8.

Here’s a note from Christa:
Hey everyone – it’s Christa Hines. I just wanted to give you an update on Tracy’s recovery. On Monday, October 1, Tracy underwent another manipulation surgery on his right knee. Dr. Baele thought that the procedure wouldn’t hurt and that it might help Tracy to gain more motion. It was a quick process, they put Tracy under anesthesia and 30 minutes later he was in recovery.

Dr. Baele was very pleased with the way the knee felt during the surgery. He was able to gain 10-12 more degrees of motion. Of course, the trauma on the muscles creates some swelling for a few days afterward but they felt it should help Tracy achieve more flexibility in his right knee over the next few weeks.

The day following the surgery, Tracy was back at St. Vincent Sports Medicine working his knee in therapy. It’s been almost a week and he is still very sore and working toward gaining more range of motion. We think after the swelling goes down Tracy will be even more determined to move forward. The movement in his foot is getting stronger each day. He still wears a brace as a precaution, the foot is still too weak for Tracy to be walking on it full time without some support.

Tracy also went to the Tony Stewart Racing shop on October 2 and climbed in the pavement midget for the first time since the accident. It might have been only been for five minutes but getting in the car made his day. He is working hard to get ready for the USAC National Midget Series race at Phoenix International Raceway on November 8.  His crew chief, Bobby Barth and the team are working to have the car ready to go. With God’s help and a lot of persistence Tracy will be in the car for that event.

Thank you again for all of your support and prayers during the past few months. We hope everyone has enjoyed the racing season and we can’t wait to see you all again very soon!

Sincerely,

Tracy & Christa Hines
