Hello everyone!
This is Tracy’s wife, Christa. I just wanted to update you on the second surgery that Tracy underwent on Monday, August 13th. We had some great news right before the procedure began and we wanted to share it with you!
God was definitely listening to everyone’s prayers. Tracy, me, his parents and Dave & Brenda Cochran from the USAC ministries were in the room when Dr. Baele (Tracy’s surgeon) was going over some of the pre-surgery information with us. Dr. Baele had been on vacation and hadn’t seen Tracy in about three weeks so he briefly looked over his knee and then took a look at his foot strength. This, mind you, was just minutes before they took him into surgery.
Dr. Baele asked Tracy to move his foot upward. Tracy tried without success and Dr. Baele told him to concentrate on just moving his toes. Tracy tried again and then Dr. Baele looked up at me and said “I just saw movement in his muscles group that moves the foot upward.” I told him that he had been on vacation too long and that he was seeing things. With all eyes on his toes, we watched again as Tracy tried again and we were all able to see the movement. It was slight — but it was upward movement. It was just perfect!
After this, we all agreed to hold off on opening the knee. We believed that it was a good sign not to cut him open and that maybe the nerve was going to start working on its own. However, it was still agreed that the knee needed to be manipulated. Dr. Baele tried to manipulate it by hand, however, the scare tissue was too heavy and he had to make three small incisions and cut on the tissue. It took 45 minutes for this procedure and then Tracy was in the recovery room.
Tracy has done well with everything and Dr. Baele is very pleased with his progress and the progress of the ligaments. Tracy is now bending his knee 70 degrees on his own and with a little help he can move it in a full range of motion. These next few weeks are very critical, we need to keep moving the knee but we need to be careful not to overexert it. Tracy is going to St. Vincent’s Sport Center everyday for therapy. He is very sore and swollen but is doing great.
We can’t tell everyone enough about how much your prayers and support have made a difference in our lives. Thanks so much for your continued support and concern!
God Bless,
Tracy and Christa Hines
