HE SAID IT…
PAUL MCMAHAN ON THE TEAM’S MISFORTUNE AT KNOXVILLE RACEWAY:
“Our night started out fantastic. The Chevrolet engine was just ripping, we drew a late qualifying number and still managed to go out and lay down an almost perfect lap. It was the first time I’d ever turned a 14-second lap in qualifying at Knoxville Raceway, which is a true testament to the power the Chevy’s produce. We were really good in the heat race and we decided to try something in the dash that ended up not working. We knew that it would either be really good or we’d end up in the back of the dash, which is what happened. Starting 10th in the A-main, I wasn’t able to move the car forward, but I was battling to hold the position I was in. Steve [Kinser, competitor] and I went into a corner together and neither of us backed off. We went for the same piece of real estate and I ended up with a collapsed front axle. He actually got the worst end of the deal; he flipped really hard, but they didn’t break anything and were able to continue. Even though the results don’t show it, we learned a lot about a different setup on Saturday night. That will definitely help us as we progress through the season, especially when we come back to Knoxville. We’re moving on to a track this week [Tri-City Speedway] that I’ve had a lot of success at in the past. I think we’ll have one of our best shots to date at getting a win for Bass Pro Shops.â€
