Stewart will be Master of Ceremonies on Night in Remembrance of Late Godfrey

July 17th, 2007

by Mort BoyerMILLSTADT, Ill. — The O’Reilly POWRi National Midget Series will pay tribute to the late wife of one of Midget’s racing longtime chassis builders with their race July 20th at the fifth-mile Macon Ill. Speedway. The O’Reilly POWRi 600cc mini-Sprints, and a non-sanctioned late model race, also join the evening’s card.

John Godfrey has been active in POWRi since its inception and Spike is one of POWRi’s strongest supporters and sponsors. This race will remember and honor Godfrey’s wife, Dana, who was instrumental in Godfrey’s racing success. This year, Spike will give away a new chassis at the season-ending banquet via a drawing.

Two-time NASCAR Nextel Cup Series champion Tony Stewart will join competitors and fans as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies. Stewart, a devout Midget fan, owner and former champion driver, drove several of Godfrey’s Midgets earlier in his career. Stewart currently fields Spike dirt Midgets which tour with various sanctioning bodies.

Track Enterprises and local Promoter Bob Sargent have decided to make this event a 40-lap Memorial race.
