Stewart Still Has A Few Loose Ends

July 9th, 2008

Now that it’s official that Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) has released Tony from the final year of his contract, we can get back to the race for the chase. There are just a few loose ends that need tied up.

Dave Moody pointed out one thing that none of the articles I’ve seen have mentioned. Here’s part of what he wrote:

Multiple reports today have said that Stewart was “granted his release” by JGR. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Stewart bought out the final year of his contact with the financial assistance of General Motors and Chevrolet, and I’m told that the buyout did not come cheap.

The other big loose end is “what now Tony”? We’ll have that answer tomorrow when Stewart will formally announce the plans for his future in a press conference at Chicagoland Speedway. The news conference is scheduled for 2:30 Eastern Time and will likely be carried live by SPEED and maybe by ESPN.
