Somebody Help Me Out Here Will Ya?

October 31st, 2007

I realize that die-casts and hats and shirts and such help to put food on the table of NASCAR drivers. I know that there are people who will invest in anything that they think will appreciate. Heck I worked retail back in the early 90’s when grown men were paying ridiculous amounts of money for baseball cards. I’m not talking about Mickey Mantle rookie cards, I mean 1991 rookie cards. Players that might not even be around in 5 years.

What I don’t understand is this - when did winning the Busch East Series start deserving a die-cast? I was just over at Joe Gibbs Racing and found this.

Joey Logano Die-Cast

“This NASCAR Busch East Series Championship car is the first die-cast produced for rising star Joey Logano as he begins his career. Limited to 720 pieces in celebration of his championship in 2007 and his car #20. Included with this special 1:24 replica car will be a piece of Joey Logano’s race win tire, as well as a reproduction portrait of Joey from Sam Bass. This diecast will ship Spring 2008. Base Price: $69.99″

So help me out here will ya. Especially those of you who are collectors. What am I missing? Sure it’s a 1 of 720 but so what. What makes it worth $69.99 plus shipping?
