Silent auction to benefit injured race driver
INDIANAPOLIS - An auto racing fan club will hold a silent auction Saturday to help pay medical bills for injured race driver Tracy Hines.Hines, who competes in the U.S. Auto Club Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown series for Tony Stewart Racing, underwent reconstructive knee surgery last week and was released from Methodist Hospital on Sunday.
The 35-year-old driver broke his pelvis and left thigh and dislocated his right knee when he crashed his motorcycle on his New Castle, Ind., property on April 30.
The auction by the Hoosier Auto Racing Fans will be at O’Reilly Raceway Park before the annual USAC Night Before the 500 midget car race. Items to be sold were donated by NASCAR drivers including Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman and Kasey Kahne, along with other drivers from the NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series, USAC, ARCA and the World of Outlaws.
