Rain Rain Go Away
Qualifying was rained out to Tony will be starting 9th, based on current points. Toyota puts 3 cars in the field with Vickers, Jarrett and Blaney.
When I looked at the line-up I was surprised to see that rather than starting 36th, as the past champion, Jarrett was starting 37th with Brian Vickers starting 36th. To solve the puzzle I, of course, turned to Jayski.
Here’s the way it works if qualifying gets rained out?
After the 5th race of the season, the current season OWNERS points are used:
#1) - First 35 by current Owner Points
#2) - Last Years Cup Champ or the Event Champion if not already in the field (did not apply)
#3) - Car Owners whose team has won in the previous and current season not already in the field (did not apply)
#4) - Drivers who have won in the previous and current season not already in the field (Vickers won at Talladega last year, giving him spot 36)
#5) - Past Nextel Cup Champions not in by 1 thru 4 (he is NOT charged a provisional used)
#6) - Qualifying Attempts with Owners points as the tie breaker (the rest of the field)
#7) - Qualifying Order Position (did not apply)
Every day is a school day. If you already knew this, it shows how much smarter you are than me. If you didn’t know this before, now you do.
Going home will be: Reutemann, Mayfield, Andretti, Allmendinger, Waltrip, Ward Burton, Lepage and Wimmer.
