HE SAID IT…
PAUL MCMAHAN ON THE NO. 20 TSR/BASS PRO SHOPS/EAGLE TEAM’S RUN IN THE GOLD CUP EVENT:
“On Friday night, we qualified well. We were able to go out and cut a good lap where a lot of teams that went out before us weren’t able to do so. The way the Gold Cup format is setup, sometimes qualifying well doesn’t always benefit you. We were third in the heat race and didn’t make the cut into the dash event so we started back in the field a bit. There was a big cushion on Friday night. You really had to be good to run it. I got behind another car and we fell back in the A-main. We finished 12th, which was good enough to squeak into Saturday night’s A-main with. On Saturday, I started 19th and the track had really laid rubber by the time the A-main rolled around. I wasn’t going to
follow anyone at that point and I tried to ride the cushion and move forward as much as possible. We moved up a few spots and finished 15th. With the number of cars and the competition that took part in the event, we fared pretty well. We’re looking forward to coming back east this week for three races and we’ll be hitting some 3/8-mile tracks along the way. That size of track is one of my favorite to race on and I think we’re going to have a good shot at putting Bass Pro Shops and Chevrolet back in victory lane again this week.”
