HE SAID IT…

PAUL MCMAHAN ON THE TEAM’S PERFORMANCE IN THE KNOXVILLE NATIONALS EVENT:

Comments following the team’s fifth place run in the Knoxville Nationals A-main finale:

“You know, I’ve always said I wanted to finish in the top-five in the Knoxville Nationals. Now that I’ve done that, it’s not good enough. I really want to win this race now, more so than ever. I will win this race. It’s just a matter of time. It has taken some drivers a long time to win the A-main here but that’s what we’re going to focus on from this point on. I can’t wait to get back here next year to take another shot at it. My number was on the scoring pylon every time I hit the track this weekend and next year we’re going to make sure it’s at the top of it.”

Comments regarding the shock change that the No. 20 TSR team performed under the red flag in the 30-lap A-main finale:

“From the start of the race I was fighting the car. We just had the wrong shock on to start the race. The Chevy engine was perfect. It had been all week. I just felt like I was driving a car that had a flat right rear tire for the better part of the race. When we came in under the red and they put the second shock on the car really improved. It was just one of those deals where the smallest adjustment made the difference. We hung in there and put a top five on the board for the night.”

Comments following the team’s fifth place run in the Thursday night (August 9) preliminary:

“Coming to Knoxville is always a lot of added pressure you put on yourself. You get so sick to your stomach before qualifying, and we were able to click off a good lap and be quick time, then the pressure rebuilds on you having to start 10th in the heat race and get into the top four to make the A-main. I was fortunate enough to have a good start and get to fourth in the heat race. It takes a lot of pressure off of me so I can just to go out and do my job and drive the Bass Pro Shops Chevy car to the front.”

“Just being locked into the main event is the big thing, but to be to the high point guy and to be in that scramble is just phenomenal for us. I’ve had a lot of bad luck running here at Knoxville, and just everything went my way tonight. The Paul Kistler Chevy motors are just ripping. This is probably the best motor I’ve had all year long.”
