WoO SPRINT OFFICIALS CANCELLED THE EVENT AFTER EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS MADE IT UNSAFE FOR BOTH COMPETITORS AND SPECTATORS.
HE SAID IT…
PAUL MCMAHAN ON THE TEAM’S MISFORTUNE IN THE A-MAIN EVENT AT PIR:
“We were moving pretty well at the start of the A-main, and I’d moved up to about 15th-place in only two or three laps. I could see that Dion [Hindi] was going to hit the fence and I went to the bottom of the track to try to avoid it. As I went by, he slid down the banking and I just had no where to go. It wasn’t intentional, just a racing deal. Jimmy [Carr, crew chief] and the guys, as well as several other teams started thrashing on it as soon as they got me back to the work area. The car wasn’t too bad. It had some damage that we could’ve continued with. The accident had smashed a header in on the engine, and we had left front shock damage, a broken radius rod on the right front and a flat tire. The guys worked really hard to try to get us back out there, but when the two-minute period was up, we still needed to tighten the shock and couldn’t get pushed off. I believe the race went green from that point on so we didn’t have an opportunity to get back out. I felt really bad for the guys, as well as Bass Pro Shops and Chevrolet. We had a good car for the A-main and we would have continued to move forward.â€
PAUL MCMAHAN ON THE AFFECTS OF THE NEW TIRE RULE:
“I don’t think the tire rule is going to be a big issue for us. The track at PIR was normal. It was slick and black as they often times are. When we get to Eldora this weekend, we’ll get a better idea of how it will factor in. I think it’s going to be more of a deal where we have to learn to how to adjust the car to the tire. In the long run, I think it will provide better racing for the fans as well as us, the drivers, and that’s what is really important. We all want to put on a great show for the fans and see the sport continue to grow.â€
