Tony Stewart will return to compete in the 10th Annual Rumble In Fort Wayne Indoor USAC Midget Auto Races at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum’s Expo Center on Friday, December 28 and Saturday, December 29, 2007.Stewart loves to return to his roots and compete in the midget car ranks at selected events. He has made a surprise visit on two occasions to Fort Wayne, one time even running under the assumed name of Mikey Fedorcak Jr. This will be the fourth time he has announced in advance his intention to race in Ft. Wayne.
Stewart attended the USAC indoor races with his father, Nelson , when they were held on the floor of the Coliseum in the 1980s. Now his father is part of his race crew when he races on the newer, larger track inside the Expo Center next door. He has won the event five times.
Stewart, who is quick to express his excitement about competing in the event, is looking forward to returning to the 1/8 th mile indoor racing facility later this season.
“Open-wheel racing, particularly midget car racing, has always been like a reset button for me. I really enjoy competing in the midget series and it’s great to be able to take a break from the day-to-day grind and race in Fort Wayne. If my schedule allows, I always try to compete in this event. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get my sixth win at the Coliseum this year. One way or the other, it’s going to be a lot of fun trying.”
Past USAC champions Mel Kenyon, Dave Darland, Tony Elliott and NASCAR Penske South developmental driver Billy Wease, and East Coast ARDC Champion Lou Cicconi are among the drivers that will be entered.
There will be a complete racing event of heat and feature races for the USAC Midgets, Outlaw Modified Winged Midgets, Slingshots, Junior Sprints, and quarter midgets on the 1/8th mile oval. Front gates open at noon. The USAC heats and main events are all after 7 p.m.
