Jones Wins in Vegas

While Tony Stewart may have crapped out in Las Vegas, Levi Jones hit the jackpot Friday night, winning the USAC/CRA “Las Vegas Dirt Classic.”

The Olney Daily Mail reports that the two-time USAC National Sprint Car champion dominated the 23-car field, leading all 30 laps behind the wheel of his blue Walker/Guiducci #11 machine.

It was Jones’ second-career USAC/CRA triumph and his 24th non-wing victory since the start of 2004.

Levi qualified eighth, touring the half-mile clay oval in 18.518 seconds aboard his Claxton-powered DRC. Hockett set the quick time (17.850) followed by Kruseman (18.056) and Josh Ford (18.077).

Jones, California veteran Rodney Argo and Nic Fass claimed the three eight-lap heat races.

USAC/CRA feature results from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track (30 laps): 1. Levi Jones (#11), 2. Jesse Hockett (#75), 3. Cory Kruseman (#21K), 4. Danny Sheridan (#18), 5. Blake Miller (#93), 6. Garrett Hansen (#7), 7. Casey Shuman (#0), 8. Tyler Brown (#96), 9. Dustin Morgan (#11D), 10. Nic Fass (#117).

Jones will begin his USAC National Sprint Car title defense April 5 when the series opens its 2008 season at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.  Levi will once again be piloting Tony Stewart’s #20 sprint car in USAC action with new crew chief Rob Hart turning the wrenches.
