Is Edwards really Eddie Haskell?
OK, so now everybody is saying Tony was right. A while back, and I don’t even remember when, Tony compared Carl Edwards to Eddie Haskell of “Leave it to Beaver” fame for his “aww, shucks” goody-goody enthusiasm when the cameras were on masked an underlying dark side.
Most people didn’t believe him. But now, after his threat to throw down against Matt Kenseth last Sunday, everybody is up in arms. He should be fired, he should be fined, he’s a jerk, blah blah blah.
All I can say is Good For You Carl. I’m glad somebody besides Tony is willing to show a little emotion in this sport. Heck, to hear DW talk, back in the day these kind of things happened after every race. It wasn’t unusual for entire teams to come to blows over some “injustice”.
Now days the drivers are so concerned with what the sponsors will say that the only time we ever see any emotion is in victory lane, and that’s so scripted that doesn’t even look real anymore. I’m betting the real emotion comes out after the TV guys have left.
Let’s all cheer for Carl allowing his true self to come out. And boo to all you fans who want sponsorly correct drivers. Is sponsorly a word?
And just so you know, Matt and Carl are both in my top 5 favorite drivers list.

Carl Edwards is in my top 5, and I too was pleased to see his emotion. Stewart gets a bad rap for doing stuff like that but he’s just the only one to do it openly and honestly.
