I Don’t Like the Sprint Cup

October 3rd, 2007

I hadn’t thought much about the fact that the Nextel Cup Series was going to become the Sprint Cup Series next year. I thought it was a little ironic during the whole Jeff Burton ATT/Cingular fiasco that he couldn’t change his sponsor name while Nextel could. Then this morning, the M&M’s announcement came across my screen.

Mars U.S. announced today a three-year partnership with M&M’S® Brand Chocolate Candies as the sponsor of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) team and driver Kyle Busch in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series beginning in 2008.

After a quick scan, I had to stop and go back and read it again more closely. My first thought was, is M&M’s sponsoring a sprint car? I wonder if the folks at Nextel even realize:

This is a sprint car

Tony Stewart Sprint Car

This is NOT a sprint car

Kyle Busch

Is it just me or does the Sprint Cup Series just seem to be a bad name?
