Future Looking Bright for Joe Gibbs Racing
I’d have to say that the future looks bright for Joe Gibbs Racing. I don’t mean the Chase, although that looks good with both Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin vying for the title. Nor do I mean next year when Busch the Younger comes on board. I’m talking about the future.
This story by Shawn Courchesne of The Courant is why.
The youngest touring division champion in the history of NASCAR was, for all intents, crowned Friday at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Seventeen year old Middletown native Joey Logano won the Busch East Series Aubuchon Hardware 125 Friday at NHIS, in the process he clinched the Busch East championship. Logano needs only to start next week’s race at Dover International Speedway to make the title official.
Logano, a developmental driver for Joe Gibbs Racing in his first year in the division, passed Mark McFarland for the lead on lap 114 and held on the rest of the way to win.
He became the first rookie champion since the inception of the division in 1989.
Matt Kobyluck, who needed to finish sixth or better to stop Logano from clinching the title before the season finale at Dover, crashed battling for sixth place with Kelly Moore on lap 115.
Joey Logano. Mark that down. You’ll be hearing it a lot in the future.
