In a surprise to absolutely no-one, Jr. was once more voted the NASCAR Most Popular Driver.  Jr. is the third driver to win the award in at least five-straight years, joining Richard Petty and Bill Elliott.

Elliott won the award 16 times, including 5 in a row, then after a 2 year break when Darryl Waltrip won before being winning it 10 years in a row.  In 2001, after Dale Earnhardt Sr. was killed in the Daytona 500, Elliot removed himself from the competition which was won by Earnhardt. Elliott came back to win the award in 2002, the last year before Jr. started his 5 year run.

The final standings were:

  1. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
  2. Jeff Gordon
  3. Michael Waltrip
  4. Kasey Kahne
  5. Tony Stewart
  6. Kevin Harvick
  7. Matt Kenseth
  8. Jimmie Johnson
  9. Elliott Sadler
  10. Dale Jarrett.

  1. I’m not surprised about Jr getting the most popular, but I am surprised that the top five are nearly identical to last year’s results
