HE SAID IT…

PAUL MCMAHAN ON THE TEAM’S UP AND DOWN WEEK ON THE EAST COAST:

LERNERVILLE SPEEDWAY:

“At Lernerville, we qualified really well. We really almost qualified too well, as we didn’t make the dash for the night, which put us back in the field for the start of the A-main. In the A-main, I spun out trying to avoid another wreck, which put us back in 28th to restart. I got back up to 16th for the finish, which was a decent finish after the spin. I was fighting the steering through the entire feature. It was a rough race. To come away from the night with a car still in one piece and running at the checkered flag wasn’t what we’d like to have seen but considering the alternative, we’ll take it.”

WILLIAMS GROVE SPEEDWAY:

“The two-day show at Williams Grove was really like two separate events. Our first night out, we qualified well to start, but got into trouble as the night went on. In the heat race, I got caught up in an accident that I tried to avoid but didn’t have anywhere to go. I t-boned the No. 12 and the result was pretty much a junked racecar. We put coils on it to run the B-main with, just to get us through, but it didn’t help much. We were able to transfer out of the B-main, and we didn’t have to take the provisional to start the A-main, which was good. The car wasn’t good in the main but we finished the race and it ended up being a good points night for us. Not having to take the provisional was really a good thing, as it means we’re not in the hole if we end up needing them as the season goes on. We came away from what could have been a really bad night with a decent result.”

“The second night at Williams Grove ended up making up for the first one. We drew really late in qualifying, which can sometimes hurt you, but we still qualified just outside the top-10. The car was really good all night and we ran well in both the dash and the feature event to get a solid fourth place finish. I’m glad we were able to put on a good show for the guests we had from the Harrisburg, Pa., Bass Pro Shops store. It’s great to have them come to the track to support us.”

NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY:

“The crowd at New Egypt Speedway was great on Sunday. They waited through the rain to watch us race. That’s dedication. After hotlaps, it started raining, so we didn’t know how that would affect the track as the night went on. When it came time to qualify, we had a good car and we took second quick time. The Chevrolet engine really ran well all night on the big 5/8-mile and we were good in the heat race and the dash. We wrapped up the weekend with a top-10 and we’re going to head into this week’s races on a good note. I’m really pleased with how we performed last week and I am especially excited to go back to The Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway this Friday. It would be really cool to get a win for Bass Pro Shops with the boss (Tony Stewart, team owner) there.”
