Armor All to Sponsor Donny Schatz at Tony Stewart Racing
CONCORD, N.C. – Two-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion Tony Stewart announced today that Armor All will sponsor Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) second World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Series entry beginning with the 2008 racing season. Reigning WoO Sprint Series champion Donny Schatz will drive the No. 15 Armor All/Chevrolet entry for TSR alongside the No. 20 Bass Pro Shops/Chevrolet machine currently fielded by TSR.“We’re extremely pleased to welcome Armor All to Tony Stewart Racing,” said Stewart, who helped unveil the partnership with Schatz and Jon Balousek, vice president of marketing for Armor All, in a press conference at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. “We’ve been working toward establishing a second World of Outlaws team for some time, and we’re thrilled to have such a committed partner in Armor All.
“It’s also exciting to have Donny Schatz carry the Armor All colors. Donny is an outstanding driver and we look forward to having him as a part of the TSR family next season. He’ll be a perfect fit for the Armor All brand and we’re confident that he and the No. 15 team will be a championship contender right out of the box.”
The announcement that Armor All will promote its innovative line of interior and exterior car care appearance products with TSR and the No. 15 team finalizes TSR’s plans to activate two WoO Sprint Series teams beginning in 2008. Joining TSR and Schatz in the effort will be the ParkerStore division of the Parker Hannifin Corporation, as the hose and fittings warehouse chain moves to the team as an associate sponsor.
“It’s great to have Armor All as our primary sponsor as I make the move to Tony Stewart Racing,” said Schatz, who won the 2006 WoO Sprint Series championship and back-to-back Knoxville (Iowa) Nationals titles in 2006 and 2007 with his family-owned race team. “While my family provided me with a huge opportunity to advance my racing career, I know that the next chapter in my career will begin as a part of TSR. It’s an honor to work with such a knowledgeable motorsports brand like Armor All.
“I’m also pleased to continue our relationship with ParkerStore. They’ve been a big part of my racing career for several years, and it’s exciting to have them join me in the move to Tony Stewart Racing. I’m confident that we’ll be able to continue the winning tradition that ParkerStore has enjoyed for so many years.”
Schatz currently leads the WoO Sprint Series standings with 9,630 points. He holds a 90-point lead over second-place Joey Saldana heading into the series’ next event at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., on Oct. 13. Schatz has won a series-high 18 A-main events in 2007 and has made 501 career WoO Sprint Series starts.
