A Sad Addition to Stewarts Resume

From the looks of things, a sad note can now be added to Tony Stewart’s resume, Last IROC Champion. Tony won the championship in 2006, and due to sponsor problems the series didn’t run in 2007. From the looks of their website,IROC — The International Race of Champions, they are closing the doors for good.
It was an interesting idea, but eventually turned into a NASCAR dominated series. I’m kind of sorry though that I didn’t get to see them run the road course at Cleveland (84) or Mid-Ohio (85-87 ). Of course they probably would have been on the Wide World of Sports.
There was no IROC in 81-82 and 83 so maybe they’ll be back someday. When Tony won the championship in 2006, he offered to let them keep the million dollar prize if they would race at Eldora Speedway. Maybe he’ll figure out a way to bring the series back, and put a couple races on the dirt. Then we’d find out who the real champion is.
