TULSA, Okla. – Chili Bowl week just got a little bit better for the thousands upon thousands of race fans that flock to Tulsa each January for the world’s premier auto racing event, as a Chili Bowl Race of Champions has been added to the Tuesday night portion of the event that spans five nights.
The 23rd edition of the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals is slated to take place at the QuikTrip Center’s Tulsa Expo Raceway on January 13-17, 2009.
It had previously been announced that the Tuesday event would become a full qualifying event in 2009 rather than a “pre-qualifying” card reserved for Chili Bowl rookies and relative newcomers, as had been the case over the previous two years.

INDIANAPOLIS (TSR) – During the last two Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series seasons, Donny Schatz has shown his strength following the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions in California. Each season, Schatz has won the first WoO races following the annual Gold Rush Tour en route to winning consecutive WoO series championships.
Schatz will be looking to continue that trend this week as he returns to the Midwest behind the wheel of the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) No. 15 Armor All/Chevy/ParkerStore J&J. ATLANTA (JGR) – A lot is riding on the final 10 races of this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, but even more so for Tony Stewart and The Home Depot-sponsored No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team.
Still winless in 2008, Stewart wants – needs – a win. Not for the record books of keeping his streak alive of winning each season since joining the Sprint Cup ranks in 1999, but to satisfy the burning desire Stewart and Co. have for winning.
After the team’s fourth runner-up finish of the year last Sunday at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, the disappointment of doing interviews on pit road instead of inside victory lane was palpable.
