Tough Night at Volusia for Josh Richards

It was a tough night for Josh Richards at Volusia Speedway Park on Friday. Running in the 5th heat race Josh was involved in an accident that damaged his front end. That placed him last in the 3rd B Main.

Starting 12th in his B Main, Josh was able to move up to 9th, finishing 2 spots ahead of NASCAR driver Ryan Newman but not doing well enough to transfer into the A Main.

The winner of the A Main was Clint Smith. It was Smith’s first win

Tony Stewart Nationwide Qualifying Quotes

Tony Stewart talks to the media after taking the pole for Saturday’s Nationwide race.

You had a great lap here in qualifying. Did you expect it in single car runs?

“We backed up what we ran yesterday. The winds are a little higher today than what we practiced in yesterday so to back it up I thought was a really good run for these guys.”

You were top-five in times but that didn’t seem to matter, did it?

“I think we are pretty good here, but we will wait and see. I’m pretty excited about starting this race tomorrow. I think this car is going to be pretty fast.”

How hard was it for you to turn that fast lap today?

“It was a lot of work today. I had to leave

Another 2nd Shows Stewart Ready for Victory Lane on Sunday

Tony Stewart continued riding the momentum from his second-place finish last Saturday night in the non-points Budweiser Shootout by finishing second in his Gatorade Duel qualifying race on Thursday. The result will slot the driver of the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota sixth in Sunday’s 50th running of the Daytona 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

Stewart was in contention to win his third Gatorade Duel, as he led once for nine laps in a race extended four laps past its scheduled 60-lap distance after a green/white/checkered finish.

It was the green/white/checkered finish that seemed to end Stewart’s shot at adding to his Gatorade Duel wins from 2005 and 2007, as Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin used a slingshot move to pull

Richards Opens WoO Late Model Series Season With Victory For Second Straight Year

Barberville, FL — Josh Richards opened the 2008 World of Outlaws Late Model Series season exactly the same way he did a year ago – with a convincing victory during the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals.

But the path ‘Kid Rocket’ took to the checkered flag in Thursday night’s 50-lap A-Main was decidedly different than in 2007.

A dominant flag-to-flag winner in last year’s tour lid-lifter at the half-mile oval, Richards had to battle from start-to-finish this time to pocket a $10,150 top prize for his seventh career WoO LMS triumph.

“It was a lot harder tonight,” said Richards, who started third but didn’t take over the lead until lap 31 when Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga., retired with mechanical trouble. “I was a nervous wreck the whole race.”

Richards, 19,
